LEAP Tampa Bay - A Collaborative Approach

Business, education, local government, the nonprofit community and local residents are working together through the LEAP Tampa Bay College Access Network to  increase the number of people who have earned college degrees or high-quality credentials and are ready for the future workforce needs in Tampa Bay.  Our goal is to have 60% of working age adults (25-64) in our community hold a degree or certificate by 2025.

Across the state, communities like Tampa Bay are banding together to improve people’s access to education and training beyond high school and improve the rate at which those people successfully complete their educational goals and enter the local workforce.  LEAP Tampa Bay is one of 13 local college access networks in Florida.

One way you can help: Volunteer to help students fill out their federal financial aid applications (FAFSA). Sign up for training here.

How can you or your organization help our community reach this important goal?

Volunteer Opportunities

There are many ways your organization can become a part of the LEAP Tampa Bay Network. Companies and non-profits across the Tampa Bay region are promoting a more prosperous community by encouraging and helping individuals and employees realize their educational and training goals. Here are just a few ways you can join  the effort!

Promote or expand your company's education benefits, such as tuition reimbursement.

Census data shows that at least 250,000 people in Pinellas and Hillsborough counties have earned some college credit but did not finish a degree credential.  Empowering your employees to return to school strengthens your workforce, builds loyalty and can be a great recruiting tool for attracting new talent.  And share your education benefits with LEAP, and we’ll look for ways to leverage that information in promotions, etc.

Ask a key employee or two to become involved with a LEAP Tampa Bay workgroup to help develop and implement community-wide strategies for helping more people earn degrees or credentials.

Offer your employees’ expertise in mentoring, coaching or supporting students as they go through an educational program.

Offer internships.

Support LEAP Tampa Bay’s initiatives, such as training volunteers to help with financial aid forms or contribute to LEAP’s programs or the FUSE Scholarship.

Share information provided by LEAP about educational opportunities and financial aid with the community.

Connect with LEAP... Let's Talk!

Communicate to LEAP Tampa Leadership what programs you offer that support people continuing their education after high school – awareness of the programs being offered in the community promotes the opportunity to leverage partnerships across organizations.

Volunteers from the community or even teams of them from an organization are vital to the success of any large-scale community-wide movement, like our college access and attainment work.  How can you lend a hand?

Volunteer to work at a school event, coaching students on education or training options

Get basic training for how to answer questions about Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA) and work at school and community events to help others access money for college

If you like leadership roles, you could offer your skills to a LEAP Tampa Bay Work Group to plan and implement activities in partnership with other volunteers and organizations

Follow us on Twitter and Facebook and encourage your friends to do the same

And anyone can offer their personal financial support through the website of our backbone organization, the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay.  All gifts are tax-deductible.

To Volunteer,  just offer the following simple information and we’ll get back to you!
